"The Gospel begins with God, Not with Us!"

From front to back, and cover to cover, the Word of God is a book that reveals to mankind who God is! The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the supreme manifestation of God to us. Christ told His disciples and us, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father...." ( John 14:9). Christ told the woman at the well, "God is spirit" ( John 4:24), and because He is spirit, He's invisible in the brightness of His glory from our fallen human eyes. Paul told Timothy about God with these words, "Who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see" ( 1 Timothy 6:16). In other words, if we're to know God, He must reveal Himself to us! We can't know Him any other way. The good news is God has revealed Himself in Christ! In his book, ( God's Ultimate Purpose [Baker], pg. 13), Martyn Lloyd-Jones shares, "Much of the trouble in the Church today is due to the fact that we are so subjective, so interested in ourselves, so egocentric. That is the peculiar error of this present century." He continues to say that the message of the Bible is to bring us back to God, to humble us before Him, so that we can see our true relationship to Him in all of His glory. He says, "We must not start by examining ourselves and our needs microscopically; we must start with God, and forget ourselves." This writer agrees with Martyn Lloyd-Jones! When the God of creation opens our eyes to get a momentary or partial view of Him in His majesty, holiness, glory, wisdom, and power, like the prophet Isaiah, we're instantly humbled and cry out, "Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts" ( Isaiah 6:5). We're to understand and embrace that, that momentary or partial view of God shows us why we need the Savior! God is pleased to pour out the wonderful blessings of salvation on all who acknowledge that they do not deserve it but definitely need it! So we must start by some understanding of who God is and that He's revealed Himself to us in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ! Christ has manifested the God who "dwells in unapproachable light" to humanity! That momentary view of God is found from front to back, and cover to cover in the Bible! That's truly good news! Your move. Be encouraged!
