"The Practical Walk of the Christ Follower" (Colossians 1:9-10)

Our passage reads, "We have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects.." Let's define the word "practical." It means, "Of, relating to, or manifested in practice or action: not theoretical or ideal." In other words, the walk of the Christ follower is not a theory to be discussed, but something to be practiced! The idiom which says, "practice makes perfect" applies! It means if you do something over and over, you'll learn to do it very well! Our walking (lifestyle) is designed to please the Lord in all respects. How are we to do this? We do it by "spiritual wisdom and understanding." Wisdom is the ability to gain and organize principles from God's Word (knowledge of His will). Understanding is the application of these principles to the details of our lives. The wise application of God's Word is what enables us to "walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects." For this reason Paul says, "Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom" (Colossians 3:16). The wise application of God's Word is to spread through and fill every aspect of the Christ followers life! The psalmist said it best with these words, "Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You" (Psalm 119:11). Do you hide God's Word in your heart (mind, will, and emotions)? Do you consider God's Word a treasure? Do you really desire to walk God's way (a manner worthy of the Lord)? Letting the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom is worth any effort it will take! It allows us to live life the way life was meant to be lived! Your move. Be encouraged!
