The Truth, The Whole Truth, and Nothing But the Truth...(John 14:6) Part Two

Let's continue dealing with the subject of tolerance and the Christ follower. Practically speaking, the only truth that our culture believes is that there's no such thing as absolute truth, or at least no access to that truth. To say that something is absolutely true means that it is independently true for all people, even if they don't know it or recognize it to be true! The Bible is absolutely true. The Bible is the only truth that's absolutely true. According to our culture, making the statement that the Bible is absolutely true, is being intolerant and narrow-minded. Those who holler for tolerance are not asking the Christ follower to simply tolerate and get along with the opposing belief. They're asking us to concede that other beliefs are just as true as ours, to abandon our view of exclusivism. That would be compromise which brings about nothing less than a death blow to our faith in the Scriptures. The real problem is that the cry for tolerance has crept into the church! What culture is implying when they push their definition of "tolerance" is that Christ followers should never stand up for their beliefs, if standing up for them means asserting that their beliefs are the only true beliefs, that they indeed are exclusive! Culture is not asking the Christ follower to tolerate homosexuality, but to change their belief that homosexuality is wrong for every person! This is not asking someone to be tolerant; it's asking someone to compromise his or her beliefs and convert to culture's faith. This is something that the Christ follower can't do! By tolerance, our culture means that we compromise the absolute truth of God's Word. By tolerance, our culture demands that we approve of their lifestyles. By tolerance, our culture is essentially asking us to give up our faith in the absolute truth of the Bible. This we can't do! The words of Jesus Christ are true no matter whether one believes it! The words of Jesus Christ are not dependent upon time, culture, or ANY situation! Whenever our culture cries for tolerance, we cry with them, and explain the difference between tolerance and compromise. Your move. Be encouraged!
