Confronting Error In The Church...

Question: "Is positive confession" or "prosperity gospel" teaching biblical? Upon further review, we'll see that these teachings are not biblical and are in many ways directly opposed and mutually incompatible to the clear teaching of Scripture! While this teaching exists in many different versions, they all have very similar characteristics. At its best, this teaching comes from the misinterpretation and misunderstanding of some Scriptures, and, at its worst, it is a completely heretical teaching that has the characteristics of cultic doctrine! It is taught and promoted by the Word of Faith movement and is immensely popular. There are many areas where this doctrine departs from biblical Christianity. The roots of this dangerous teaching have more in common with New Age metaphysics than with biblical Christianity! Instead of us "creating our reality with our thoughts," as is taught by New Age proponents , "positive confession" teachers tell us that we can use the "force or power of faith" to "create our own reality or get whatever we say." In essence, biblical faith is redefined from "a trust in a holy and sovereign God despite our circumstances" to "a way of controlling God to give us whatever we desire." Biblical faith becomes a "force" that enables us to get whatever we desire rather than an abiding trust in a sovereign God even during times of suffering and adversity! This doctrine really exalts man and his "faith" above the sovereign God. The Word of Faith teachers teach that man was created on terms of equality with God and that man is in the same class of being that God is Himself! While the "positive confession" teaching and the concept of controlling one's future with words or faith is very appealing to sinful man, it's insulting to a sovereign God who has revealed Himself in the Word of God. Instead of understanding and embracing the absolute sovereign power of God, this false teaching embraces a false god who can not operate apart from their "faith." They teach a twisted view of God by saying that He wants to bless you with wealth, health, and happiness but can't do so unless YOU have enough "faith!" Thereby, God is no longer in control but man is. However, we see, over and over again in the Scriptures, God sovereignly blesses whom He chooses to bless and heals whom He chooses to heal! Let's get real with ourselves and clearly see the error that's been accepted as truth! Your move. Be encouraged!
